As always with England, if they win I'll be happy because people I like will be happy, and if they lose I'll be happy because people I hate will be unhappy.3 points

Came apart a bit in this game I'm afraid. We should've put them to bed in the first half, from that point on we never had a look in. Vida was utterly immense btw, I'd sign him in an instant. The ginger prick makes a few good points. There was no plan B for this tournament, Kane filled his boots by beating an absolutely shit team in Panama and with a couple of penalties but contributed very, very little to open play, the game against Colombia also masked many of our shortcomings (since they weren't trying to play football) and we were beaten by both halfway decent footballing sides we played. That said, this is miles better than England have been for a very long time and I think Southgate deserves credit. The last pack of England managers we've had have been dogshit to a man. We finally accomplish something, easy route to the semi-final or not, and now we need to build on that.2 points

Congratulations, Andrew. You’ve won the only realistic England fan on here tonight award.2 points

Pretty sure this isn't true, as all the Chelsea players have names as far as I know.2 points

Equally, since when has leadership been about passing all the responsibility for something you helped cause (she actively campaigned for this) onto those who were largely misled about what it would entail?2 points

What a load of fucking bollocks that tweet is. Political "Leaders" my arse, what is fucking leadership about that load of shite? I want my political leaders to have some fucking brains and the balls to do whats actually best for the people of the country, having the expertise and experience to do so regardless of whether a heap of people who don't understand the issues don't like it. Since when has letting "I want that, even though its known to be terrible for me" happen been the way to lead anything? You don't let your stupid fucking kids run into traffic or drink bleach because they wanted to, you fucking stop it because you know that its bad for them.2 points

Well, only 6% of MPs and peers bothered to read the impact papers. Fair enough. I mean, it's not about how it impacts people's lives any more is it? It's about the will of the people. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jul/05/brexit-impact-papers-viewing-requests-made-by-just-6-of-mps-and-peers If this is democracy it can go fuck itself as far as I'm concerned.2 points

This is where we're at now. She knows that there's no argument left for Brexit so let's just ignore that and bang on about the will of the people. They've given up even trying to create any benefits for it. There are a significant number of MPs knowingly and willingly trying to sabotage our country because they're too stubborn to admit that they were wrong. In the shit show we've seen over the last two years has there been a single MP who campaigned for Leave who has since admitted that it's a bad idea? The government will do u-turns on pensions, NICs and the dementia tax but not a single MP will change their mind over the biggest fuck up ever to face our country?2 points

Wonder if it'll be better for England to lose this one to go into the easier side of the draw in the next round.2 points

Which is why none of the managers you've had in 20 years have done anything with an England side. ETA: I think it was Andrew who mentioned the golden balls generation. This squad (and player pool) is considerably worse, so what's made the difference?1 point

RTÉ pundits were on their side for most of it though they thought Croatia deserved in on balance. The reaction to this may well be the reason it's hard for people (including reasonable English people) to get behind them.1 point

Well, unlike you lot I've really enjoyed this world cup overall, its been great to have a supportable England team again and who knows, might actually look to the nations league and qualification for the euros with some enjoyment in mind. It feels a far cry from the gerrard/lampard/rooney/terry era now and thank god for that.1 point

I have to place a lot of blame on Southgate for his persistence in starting Sterling, Dele Ali, and Lingard. Also blame him for not making changes when it was obvious the tide had turned against us and as manager he needed to change the game. Game should have been put to bed in the first half. Ah well, hopes dashed again, might not be around for the next one, my sell-by, best-by dates are long gone, only the expiration date is viable.1 point

Pickford's "save"? If that had happened at the other end we'd be wanting their keeper sent off.1 point

Sorry to hear about your loss PL mate, I lost my mother recently and had a really rough time of it. As far as this match goes I think England have played well, Croatia are always going to pose a problem as they have some real class but we seem to be handling it well. The late pressure from Croatia is expected with the way England play, we seem to play in bursts of high energy before a bit of a lull.1 point

Rafa: “I’d like to stay here for five years or 10 years if it’s possible because I can see the potential, the fans and the city. Everybody (needs to be) pushing in the right direction. “But we have to do things like I imagine has to be done in a football club.”1 point

This has brought back memories of Blaydon saying Newcastle should look at the latest prospect from Wollongong Wolves, in one of those moments where he'd forgotten he'd told people he wasn't still in Sydney but actually working as an apprentice journalist at the Evening Chronicle1 point
