Happy Face 29
Mark Ronson - Oh My God I like Mark Ronson, Here Comes The Fuzz was a quality album, I like The Kaiser Chiefs, their first album had some class pop songs on (Oh My God included), I’ve even liked some of Lily Allens stuff, her Dizzee Rascal collaboration was class, but this is the worst song from Version. My Chemical Romance - Teenagers I’ve heard of these. Never realized they were SOOOOOOOOOO much of a Green Day tribute band. Even down to the lead singer pulling daft faces with dyed black hair and eyeliner. Could do worse than copy Green Day, who’re great fun. PS. It’s just finishing now, good to see Status Quo are still inspiring the kids. Favourite song so far just for that. Amy McDonald - Mr Rock & Roll Liked the Jon Brion esque intro, then it all got a bit too Kirst Maccoll Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent Like the line “Was it a megadobber or a betting pencil?”, not much else to recommend it though. Natasha Bedingfield - Soulmate Stop wobbling EVERY note bitch! Shit. Newton Faulkner - Dream Catch Me Loved it until the guitar came in on 4 seconds. Then it became shit. What a dull dull man. I keep listening to the first 4 seconds though. Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned Wouldn’t be a bad track if it wasn’t for the crappy lyrics. Rihanna - Shut Up & Drive Her again? Actually, this is far better than her other one. Green Day - The Simpsons Theme Success. Something I didn’t know existed that is class. Mind you the vocalization of the theme at the end is horrendous, and this fucker kicks it’s arse altogether. What Time Is It? - High School Musical 2 Good! God! Guest Patrokles
Why are you youtubing the top 40? It's not an indication of the good music that IS out there. It's an indication of the current pop/commercial market.

But there are those in this thread claiming that currently there is no halfway decent music, nor any good lyricists compared to the good old days (I'd personally contest that there were very very few worthwhile lyricists back then, too.). I think it's worth pointing out to them that this isn't the case.

On the flipside, it's quest into mainstream pop in search of hidden gems which I'd otherwise not have found due to my blinkered Pitchfork/Tiny Mix Tapes view of the music world. Happy Face 29
Gym Class Heroes - Cupid's Chokehold Absoloutley hilarious. The Supertramp sample is worse than Puff Daddy’s cringeworthy use of I'll be Watching You. There’s one bit where the ‘rapper’ tries to get 2 lines of lyrics into one that had me creased. Comedy gold. Shit. Beyonce ft. Shakira - Beautiful Liar Nice mariachi intro. I can almost abide Beyone, she limits the vocal workout shite somewhat. Shakira on the other hand goes at it with gusto with every word. Fucking horseshit. Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin and that do more with one inflected note at the right moment than all these whores and their constant climbing up and down the scales do in an entire back catalogue. Kings of Leon - Fans One song so far that I’ve listened to loads and will do in the future. Jack Peñate - Torn On The Platform Cos my Eyes, eyes, eyes Are not Dry, dry, dry As I Realise, ise, ise That in a few minutes this train will be gone Sighs, sighs, sighs City Fly’s, fly’s, fly’s Wonder Why, why, why Would anyone want to live where I come from? Gordon Bennet! Kelly Rowland ft Eve - Like this More heartfelt warbling from modern day divas. Unimaginably shit. Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah A pretty lament. I don’t believe him though. R.Kelly feat. Usher - Same Girl R.Kelly is a genius. The opus that was Trapped in the Closet was a modern masterpiece. While not up to that standard, this is almost as good. More impressive than that pile of Triceratops shit off Jurrasic Park. Timbaland - Give It To Me (feat. J. Timberlake & N. Furtado) Better than his current number one. Liking the drums, he should stick to his drums, cos his singing/rapping/talking is a crock. Take That - Shine I was one of the few people that liked Mark Owen's solo album. Child was a lovely song. As unoriginal as it is, this is an amazingly jaunty tune in the vein of Mr Blue Sky. Hard to be bitter towards it. Class tbh. Reverend and the Makers - Heavyweight champion of the world Arctic Monkeys and the Happy Mondays spliced. Shit.
Happy Face 29
Mutya - Real Girl These slags warbling all over the shop, straining to show their range in EVERY song are really pissing me off now. But I’m a bit of a fan of It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over so this one has sent me way over the edge. Hellogoodbye- Here (In Your Arms) Almost as bad as that Highschool Musical one. Amerie - Gotta Work Sampling is about taking a SHORT sample of music and using it as an ELEMENT of a NEW recording. Chart acts these days seem to think it’s just as original not to sample, but to lift a chorus wholesale. Jesus wept. The track can’t help but be toe tapping good, it’s Hold On I'm Coming for gods sake. Calvin Harris 'The Girls' Zig and Zag did a song called Them Girls. It was better than this penguin shit. Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder Someone borrowed me a Maroon 5 mini disc once. I’ve not spoken to them since. I’ve only got myself to blame for youtubing this, so I’ll not be speaking to myself any more. Shit. Nelly Furtado Say it Right Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Shit The Enemy - Had Enough As tedious as anything else in the chart. Mercury Prize? Fuck off! Klaxons - It's Not Over Yet Aren’t these meant to be rave? It’s not rave. It’s shit. Actually, that’s not fair. Not that shit, but I won’t get much listening from them. Yves Larock : Rise Up The kind of shit I’d expect on a Jamster advert. Bonus though, search for Rise Up on you tube and Rise Up With Fists by Jenny Lewis is top, so watching that was good. Funeral For A Friend - Walk Away Christ it’s so contrived. Sing in your normal voice man. oooh quiet loud, original. He's all emotional and then all passionate. Bullshit. My top 40 experiment has come to an end. In conclusion I'd say about 10% of mainstream pop music is not shit. Probably about the same percentage as you'd get in the Indie chart, appearing at your local theatres, or in your local bars. probably even higher. Team Gorillaz Rage Against the Machine The Arcade Fire Snoop Dogg Daft Punk Mylo Arctic Monkeys Nirvana Interpol The Chemical Brothers Alice in Chains Public Enemy The Fall It seems odd to me that you deem it ok to like the Arctic Monkeys, but not the Kaiser Chiefs. What makes the Arctics so superior in your opinion? The Kaiser Chiefs new album was shit, but the first was on a par with any of the Arctic Monkeys stuff.
